SPORTS AWARDS & RECOGNITION PROGRAM
SATURDAY MARCH 12, 2022

Member Participation

After a 2 year hiatus we are pleased to announce that the annual Brantford Sports Council Awards & Recognition Program will be held in 2022 to recognize all those that contribute to youth sport in our community. The last banquet was held on February 12, 2020 one day before the first COVID-19 lock down was announced.

While over 220 attended we realized that the Sports Recognition banquet had outgrown the current venue and work began in 2019 to develop a different venue that would accommodate a larger audience in order to continue recognizing all the groups that make a difference for youth sport in our community.

The objective was to continue to have all our members and community partners participate while providing a greater engagement for the youth in our community and be more inclusive so that all could participate and continue to showcase our youth sports and the importance of sport.

The awards program is scheduled for Saturday March 12, 2022 and will kick off the 2nd annual Celebration of Youth Sports Week that will run to Saturday March 19th.

The program will include a variety of virtual and live performances in a matinee venue to host all our youth sport groups and community partners throughout the day.

Planned activity throughout the week will provide the opportunity for each group to showcase their organization while engaging athletes, volunteers, families representing their sport and sports organization.

While we are finalizing an overall calendar of activity that will engage and recognize all our groups. We need your continued support and participation. We are looking for each of our members to co-ordinate with our organizing committee and add some content to the program. (e.g. any videos, YouTube highlights of 2021, accomplishments, milestones or overviews of your organization)

We need someone in your organization (athlete, parent, volunteer, board member etc.) who would be interested in developing activities for your group for the Awards and the Celebration of Youth Sports Week March 12 to 19, 2022. (No meetings to attend)

The continued support and involvement of all the Sports Council members and community partners is essential to our program.

Sport is the catalyst that brings a community together and is a key element in the social fabric of our community.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on virtually every facet of our life for the past 2 years. We have had to deal with and react to numerous changes in regulations, protocols and procedures to ensure we maintained a safe and healthy environment for all.

We cannot underestimate the impact among young athletes. The cancellation of school and sports accompanied by decreases in physical activity and significant consequences from not being able to participate and compete in their sport and the resulting isolation and the related social impacts.

Hopefully we see the COVID-19 pandemic in the rear-view mirror in the coming weeks and months. There has been nothing more enjoyable these past weeks than seeing young athletes participating in all the various sports programs.

Details about the program will be announced in the coming weeks. Certainly, contact us if you have any questions or clarifications.

Your continued support and engagement as we move forward in 2022 and “Return to Play” is appreciated.
