Awards Criteria - Brantford Sports Council

Sportsmanship & Dedication Award – Kevin Finney Memorial Award

Male or female athlete must have been a member of a sport organization or school sport in the City of Brantford, County of Brant or Six Nations.
Must demonstrate sportsmanship, dedication, leadership and fair play.

Female Youth Leadership – Phyllis Gretzky Memorial Award

Female athlete must have been a member of a sport organization or school sport in the City of Brantford, County of Brant or Six Nations.
Shows leadership, dedication and spirit both in sports and in school.
Shows respect for the coach, referee and her teammates.
Shows a positive example to teammates through play and attitude.

Male Youth Leadership – Frank Bricker Memorial Award

Male athlete must have been a member of a sport organization or school sport in the City of Brantford, County of Brant or Six Nations.
Shows leadership, dedication and spirit both in sports and in school.
Shows respect for the coach, referee and her teammates.
Shows a positive example to teammates through play and attitude.

Excellence in Sports Officiating – Dave Levac Award

Nominee must have officiated for local sports organizations or schools in the City of Brantford, County of Brant or Six Nations.
Nominee must have been an official for a minimum of 3 years.

Coach of the Year – John Macklin Memorial Award 

Nominee must have been a Coach for a local sports organization, individual or school team in the City of Brantford, County of Brant or Six Nations.
Nominee must have coached for a minimum of 2 consecutive years.
Nominee must be a positive role model and teacher for the members of the team during practice and competitions.

Sports Volunteer of the Year – George Churchill Memorial Award 

Nominee must be a Volunteer with a local sports organization or school team in the City of Brantford, County of Brant or Six Nations.
Nominee must have been with the organization or team for a minimum of 3 years.
Nominee must have a positive impact with those they interact with as a board member, team representative, trainer or other position.

Lifetime Sports Sponsorship – Jack Calbeck Memorial Award

Business, organization or individual must have sponsored a local sports organization or a school in the City of Brantford, County of Brant or Six Nations.
Nominee must have been a sponsor for a minimum of 5 years.

Lifetime Sports Volunteerism – George Jones Memorial Award

Nominee must be a Volunteer with a local sports organization or school team in the City of Brantford, County of Brant or Six Nations.
Nominee must have been with the organization or team for a minimum of 10 years.
Nominee must have a positive impact with those they interact with as a board member, team representative, trainer or other position.

Team of the Year – Jimmy Wilkes Memorial Award

Team must have been part of a local sports organization or competed on behalf of a school in the City of Brantford, County of Brant or Six Nations.
Must have excelled as a team in a given season or as a result of overcoming great obstacles, or greatly exceeds expectations.

Community Ambassador Award

The Community Ambassador Award is presented to an individual for their lifetime contributions and support of youth sports in our community.
The recipient is selected by the Brantford Sports Council Executive Committee and awarded annually at the Sports Awards Ceremonies. The Alan R. Cook Foundation is the sponsor of this award.

Sport Event Excellence Award

The recipient will have enhanced their current event or introduced a new and innovative one, demonstrating a strong dedication to creating an engaging and impactful experience for all participants and spectators.
By actively encouraging attendees to explore and spend time in Brantford beyond the sporting event experience, this organization has demonstrated a profound impact on both participants and the local community, stimulating local businesses and enhancing tourism and economic growth in Brantford.
