BSC Sports Recognition Awards Criteria

Sportsmanship & Dedication Award – The Kevin Finney Memorial Award

To be eligible for this award, the male or female athlete must have been registered on a team within a youth sports association in Brantford, the County of Brant, Six Nations or been a member 
of a school team in the City of Brantford, the County of Brant or Six Nations. The athlete must demonstrate sportsmanship, dedication and fair play.

Female Youth Leadership – The Phyllis Gretzky Memorial Award

To be eligible for this award, the person must have been registered on a team within a youth sports association in Brantford, the County of Brant, Six Nations or been a member of a school team in the City of Brantford, the County of Brant or Six Nations. The individual must excel in a leadership role with a team, as well as excelling as a leader in the classroom or in the community.

Male Youth LeadershipThe Frank Bricker Memorial Award

To be eligible for this award, the person must have been registered on a team within a youth sports association in Brantford, the County of Brant, Six Nations, or been a member of a school team in the City of Brantford, the County of Brant or Six Nations. The individual must excel in a leadership role with a team, as well as excelling as a leader in the classroom or in the community.

The Award of Excellence for Sports Officiating – The Dave Levac Award

To be eligible for this award the individual must have officiated for local sports groups, individuals with a disability or a school in the City of Brantford, the County of Brant or Six Nations. The nominee must have been an official for a minimum of 3 years in the community.

Coach of the Year – The John Macklin Memorial Award


To be eligible for this award, the individual must have coached with a team in a Brantford, the County of Brant, or Six Nations sports association, or with a school in the City of Brantford, the County of Brant or Six Nations. The individual must have coached a team for a minimum 
of 3 consecutive years. This person is a positive leader and teacher for the team before, during, and after competition. They are a positive role model for the members of the team.

Sports Volunteer of the Year – The George Churchill Memorial Award


To be eligible for this award, the person must be a VOLUNTEER within a Brantford, the County 
of Brant or Six Nations sports association, or with a school in the City of Brantford, the County of Brant or Six Nations. The individual must volunteer in a role other than a coach for example training staff, board member or a team representative. This person must have been with the association or team for a minimum of 3 years, and their presence as a member of the organization has a positive impact on those with whom they interact with in their role.

Lifetime Sports Sponsorship – The Jack Calbeck Memorial Award

To be eligible for this award, the organization, business or individual must have sponsored a Brantford, County of Brant or Six Nations sports association, or a school in the City of Brantford, the County of Brant or Six Nations. The nominee must have been a sponsor for a minimum of 5 years within the community.

Lifetime Sports Volunteerism – The George Jones Memorial Award

To be eligible for this award, the person must be a VOLUNTEER within a Brantford, County of Brant or Six Nations sports association, or with a school in the City of Brantford, the County of Brant or Six Nations. The individual must volunteer in a role other than coach for example training staff, board member or team representative. This person must have been with the association or team for a minimum of 10 years, and their presence as a member of the organization has a positive impact on those with whom they interact with in their role.

Team of the Year – The Jimmy Wilkes Memorial Award

To be eligible for this award, the team must have been a part of a Brantford, the County of Brant or Six Nations sports association, or compete on behalf of a school in the City of Brantford, the County of Brant or Six Nations. This award will be given to a team that has excelled as a team in a given season. Teams that will be considered could be as a result of having a dominant team, overcoming great obstacles, or teams that greatly exceed expectations.

Community Ambassador Award

The Community Ambassador Award is presented to an individual for their lifetime contributions and support of youth sports in our community.

The recipient is selected by the Brantford Sports Council Executive Committee and awarded annually at the Sports Awards Ceremonies. The Alan R. Cook Foundation is the sponsor of this award.

Nominations will be accepted up to March 3rd, 2024.
