Normally at this time we would be hosting our Annual Awards and Recognition Banquet to recognize all the young athletes, coaches, teams, officials, sponsors and the countless volunteers that serve on boards and committees.
The Brantford Sports Council’s 16th Annual Awards Banquet unfortunately is not taking place this year due to the Covid 19.
However, the Frank Tomlin Memorial Award for Sportsperson of the Year is being awarded for 2020.
Rick Mannen and the Selection Committee were not deterred by the current lockdown and selected a recipient. The Brantford Sports Council agreed to develop the presentation. The Sports Council was pleased to have the opportunity to again develop and arrange to present the award and provide updates on youth sport development in our community.
The presentation was captured in a live in-studio video that is being forwarded today to all our community stakeholders on various social media platforms.
The Annual Sports Recognition Banquet has outgrown the current venue. Work began last year to find a different venue that would accommodate a larger audience in order to continue recognizing all the groups that make a difference for youth sport in our community.
The objective is to continue to have all our members and community partners to support and participate as we move forward with a new venue replacing the current banquet format that would engage more youth to take part and showcase the importance of sport in our community.
New sports recognition events are being planned for later in the spring that will provide opportunities for all to take part in a variety of Sport Celebrations showcasing our local youth sports. Added information will be provided in the coming weeks.
Hopefully we can see this pandemic in our rear view mirror in the coming weeks and months.Thank you for your continued support of youth sports in our community.
